This week at the Majellan Bowling Club, we saw the continuance of the Major-Minor Club Championships with some surprising results. This is how the week rolled:
Tuesday November 23 - social games
Rink four: Alan Clark (swing bowler), Kevin Howard and Ron McGarry held all the aces in their match against Alan Clark, Russ McPherson and Max Elms. With Team McGarry bolting out to a 29-7 lead by the 17th, the writing was on the wall with Team McGarry victorious 32-9.
Rink five: Jim Clark, Peter Phegan and Kevin Miller were against it from the start being 8-0 down against Graham Scott, Brian Hope and Noel Witney by the 5th. Team Witney continued to maintain good scoring opportunities and take an easy win 27-13.
Rink six: Jake Shurmer, Dick Graham and Peter Drew were in the mix early against George Ballard, Des Sanders and Glen Miller. Team Miller started to move to the lead from the fourth end and from there maintained it, to take the win 21-13.
Rink seven: Scott Chapman and Glen Urza had double the score of Tim Pickstone and Dennis Harvey by the 12th (10-5). Team Urza continued to push ahead and by the final end had the win with a score of 22-10.
Rink eight: Robert Rathby, Daryl Shurmer and Ted Parker had a close match for the first 16 ends against Terry Chifley, Ron Hogan and Terry Burke. With nothing between the teams during this time it took until the 18th end for Team Burke to surge ahead and take the win 20-12.
Wednesday November 24 - Major-Minors Club Championship Match
Rink six: Robyn Stenhouse and Des Sanders were outclassed by the Zeds, Val and Peter Zylstra. Team Zylstra had a solid lead by the 7th (12-3) and from there never looked threatened to take an easy win 25-15.
Saturday November 27 - Games as indicated
Rink two: Social match - Jeff Adams and Dave Josh had a fight on their hands against Ron Hogan and Lacie Koszta. With nothing in it for the first 7 ends, Team Josh head the by then and did their best to maintain it, taking the win 18-12.
Rink five: Mixed pairs - Pauline Clark and Alan Clark had a great lead by the 10th being 16-5 up against Mel Parker and Craig Bush. Team Clark had the lead until the 20th end where Team Bush fought back to level the match (23-all). It came down to the last end with Team Bush winning 25-23.
Rink six: Mixed pairs - Dawn Howarth and Tiger Smith levelled the match early on the third (3-all) against Merl Stevens and Noel Witney. From there Team Witney took a handy lead 12-3 by the sixth. Team Winey maintained the lead to take the win in the end 21-16.
Rink seven: Mixed pairs - Marlene Naylor and John Hobson had the lead 6-0 by the fifth against Betsy Thornberry and Terry James. It looked as if Team Hobson were going to continue the momentum but failed on the 13th where Team James took the lead 13-10. From there the battle continued for dominance and Team James took a close win 19-17.
Rink eight: Social match - Dick Graham, Tim Pickstone and Glenn Miller were out in front by the 9th (9-3) against Max Elms, Colin Pickstone and Ron McGarry. By the 18th Team Miller had a 13-point lead until Team McGarry picked up seven points on the 19th to make it 19-13. Team Miller succeeded in the end 22-13.
Sunday November 28
Rink two: Social - Des Sanders, Leonie McGarry and Tim Pickstone were dominating over Peter Drew, Noel Witney and Alan Clark with a 21-3 lead. Team Clark tried to fight back taking the last four ends to fall short 21-12.
Rink five: Mixed pairs - Betsy Thornberry and Terry James were behind early and needed something to change against Val Zylstra and Peter Zylstra who had the lead 13-7 by the 10th. Team James picked up six on the 13th to make it 15-14 their way. From here it was on, with Team Zylstra taking the win 20-18.
Rink six: Mixed pairs - Mel Parker and Craig Bush dominated their match against Sue Murray and Hugh Brennan. Team Bush had the lead from the third end and never looked threatened from there. Team Bush taking a comfortable win 22-14.
Rink eight: Social match - Trevor Sharpham, Ray Miller and Ron McGarry had the lead from the start against Dawn Howarth, Liz Draper and Phil Murray.
Team Murray fought back to snatch the lead on the 10th (12-10). However, Team McGarry weren't finished to take back the lead and take the win 19-14.

BATHURST CITY
Club Championships
The semi-final of the Club Triples was held on Saturday. Susie Simmons, Richard Simpson and Ian Shaw defeated Garry Hotham, Anthony Morrissey and Ian Shaw 28-15.
They now progress to the Final against the team of Phil Gray, John Archer and Ray Fitzalan.
After dropping a single in the first, Susie's team led 8-1 after the fourth end. Garry's team fought back to be only a single shot down at 12-11 after eleven ends.
Susie's crew had another strong burst of four ends and eight shots to have an unassailable lead - they continued on their winning way to the final end 28-15.
Major-Minor Competition
Phil Gray and Pat Duff played Gary Hotham and Anthony Morrissey on Wednesday. Phil and Pat romped away, having 12 shots on the board after five ends.
This margin increased to 15-1 three ends later. Garry and Anthony had no answer as Phil and Pat stormed home to a 23-8 win.
Social Games
Wednesday November 24
Game1, rink 15: Ken Fulton and Jim Grives combined well against Jack Smith and Ian Cunningham for a 25-13 victory. So well that they had 13 shots on the board after five ends. Jack and Ian were never in the game which ended with the score 25-12.
Game 2, rink 17: Denis Oxley and Joe Young were always in front of Kevin Miller and Bruce Rich on their way to a 24-18 victory. After eight ends it was 7-5 but three ends later it was 14-5.
Kevin and Bruce struggled to catch up, being 17-12 at the 18th end. A six in the 20th end brought them closer, 18-21 but a three in the last end for Denis and Joe sealed the win.
Game 3, rink 18: Ray Noonan and Paul Rodenhuis had a close game against Geoff Thorne and Ian Shaw. Ray and Paul led 15-9 at the 12th end but they fell in a hole for the next five ends, allowing Geoff and Ian to close within a shot, 15-14. Winning three of the last four ends gave them the win, 19-15.
Game 4, rink 19: Peter Buining, Bob Lindsay and Barry McPherson defeated Mark Withers, Phil Murray and Arch Ledger 30-15. A five in the 6th end, and a four in the ninth gave Peter's team a 16-5 lead - the 11-shot margin held at the 14th end with the score at 21-10. After the 18th end, this lead had stretched out to 17 with the score 29-12.
Saturday November 27
Game 1, rink 15: Bob Lindsay and Arch Ledger won easily against Ray Noonan and Phil Murray with the score 26-12. Bob and Arch were level with Ray and Phil at five-all at the 5th end, but from there they won the next nine ends and 14 shots. Both teams scored seven shots in the last seven ends to finish the game on 26-12.
Game 2, rink 16: Alex Birkens and Trevor Kellock got up against Phil Gray and Joe Young, 20-14. After being equal on four-all in the fifth, they were nine-all in the 11th end. A five in the 13th end for Alex and Trevor gave them the lead which they held to the end.
Game 3, rink 17: A very close game gave the win to Kevin Miller and Ben Woodland (Lithgow Workies) over Denis Oxley and Paul Rodenhuis, 19-18.
Denis and Paul had a good 12-5 lead in the eighth end but this fell to 14-all in the 16th end, then 18-all in the 20th end. With Denis holding shot, Kevin put his last bowl in for the win.
Game 4, rink 19: Another close game resulted when Norm Hayes and Barry McPherson met Mark Withers and Jim Grives. Scores were level on nine-all then 15-all in the 16th end, when Norm and Barry scored three and two shots to take the lead and ultimate victory, 20-18.
Game 5, rink 20: John Archer and John McDonagh (J&J) had an easy win over Geoff Thorne and Bruce Rich with a 19-10 result. J&J had a 9-2 lead after 10 ends, then 13-4 after 13 ends.
Geoff and Bruce then won four ends and five shots to close the gap to 13-9 but J&J won another six.
Bathurst Real Estate Juniors
Nolan Sutton and Charlie Morrissey played against Flynn Armstrong and Langley. Nolan and Charlie played consistent bowls to win 5-1.
BATHURST CITY WOMEN
The ladies played two games of pairs in pleasant conditions.
Skip Annette Myers and Julie Martello played skip Fay Medway and Elaine Carter.
Apart from a 2 on the first end Fay and Elaine were slow to get going and Annette and Julie led 10 to 3 by the eighth end.
A three on the ninth helped Fay and Elaine, however, Annette and Julie played well and finished 25 to 8.
In the second game skip Annette McPherson and Sue Merton played skip Margaret Miller and Maureen Josh.
Marg and Maureen did not get on the card until the fifth end, however fours on the seventh and the 12th and a three on the 17th saw Margaret and Maureen finish strongly to win 18 to 13.
