The museum, which is positioned on the edge of the Mount Panorama circuit, is a must-visit destination for race fans during the Bathurst 1000 period.
NMRM coordinator Brad Owen said visitation is picking up as the race event wears on, and he's seen a mix of different people coming in to see the vehicles on display.
The museum features a range of different cars and motorcycles from Australia's racing history that are either owned by the museum itself or are on loan.
With many of the vehicles being on loan to the museum, it means there is almost always something new to see at the museum.
Die-hard Australian Touring Car Championship and Supercars fans are in for a treat at the moment, with a special exhibition out on the floor to honour the great Larry Perkins.
Perkins, who retired from racing in 2003, has competed in numerous categories and is a six-time Bathurst 1000 winner.
He is also the father of Jack Perkins, who will contest Sunday's Great Race as the co-driver for Erebus Motorsport driver Will Brown.
The exhibitions at the NMRM features vehicles and other memorabilia from Perkins' career.
"We've been working on it for a while. It all rolled in just ahead of race week," Mr Owen said.
"We've got seven cars and then a whole bunch of personal items from Larry Perkins' collection. So we've got helmets, race suits, and trophies across his whole career from the early days in open-wheelers, Formula 1 and touring cars, and six Bathurst victories."
Fans who visit Mount Panorama this week can walk over the pedestrian bridge adjacent to the last corner to access the museum.
There are extended opening hours this week so people can enjoy the museum without missing out on their favourite on-track action.
The museum will be open from 8am to 6pm on Friday and Saturday, then from 8am to 4.30pm on Sunday and Monday.
