HE picked up what he called a 'Chaz was here' mark when touching the wall at Forrest's Elbow, but the mark that Chaz Mostert left on Saturday's Bathurst 1000 top 10 shootout at Mount Panorama was even better.

Mostert clinched pole position for the Great Race with the fastest ever Supercars lap at the circuit - a flying 2:03.3736.
He said his Walkinshaw Andretti United Commodore was one of "the funnest" cars that he had ever driven, and was even able to joke about a moment at Forrest's Elbow that very nearly cost him.
"The car rolled out so good in practice one, that lap then was so good to drive," he said.
"I don't know what I did at the Elbow, I probably didn't need to whack the fence. I think I just got that excited on the exit, I think I just had that little glimpse of I can't believe how I got across the top and I just snagged the fence.
"It was so fun, I mean I can't really put into words that lap, when you've got such a good car underneath you, it just becomes a little bit effortless."
Both Cameron Waters and Brodie Kostecki had clocked lap times in the 2:03s before Mostert got his chance as the eighth man out on track for the shootout.
Mostert made a brilliant start as he bettered their efforts through the first sector and from there went on to post the record time.
"It's kind of funny, like the car is so smooth to drive at the moment, so I just braked where I thought I needed to brake and the car pulled up well," he said.
"This weekend the brake has been a little bit tricky, but now we've got some race brakes on the car it really balanced it out.
"I think I went later than I've ever been before and just said I hope I come out the other side, but the temperature coming down, the shadows, the car was really hooked up ... the car floated across the top, it picked up grip."
It is the second time Mostert has claimed Bathurst pole, but unlike 2019 when it was awarded to him post-race after Scott McLaughlin was disqualified, this time he will actually get to start from position one.
His co-driver Lee Holdsworth, who had driven in the shootout himself the previous year, said there were some tense moments as he watched on from the garage.
"Honestly I could have crawled up into a foetal position I was that nervous, it's been a long time since I've watched my car in the shootout without being in it," he said.
"But you know if you want someone in the car it's Chaz and he did an amazing job. What a bloody lap."
Joining Mostert on the front row for Sunday's race is Anton De Pasquale, who's lap time was 0.28 seconds down on the effort of the Walkinshaw star.
De Pasquale was the form driver when it came to shootouts in 2021, with 11 pole positions to his credit prior to Bathurst.
While he couldn't add another, he still managed to better his previous best finish in the mountain shootout - position three in 2018 - with his 2:03.6634 effort.
It is 2020 Bathurst pole sitter Waters who will go from position three and while Erebus duo Kostecki and Will Brown had initially qualified fourth and fifth, they were later disqualified from the shootout after both cars were found to be underweight.
It was a huge disappointment for the pair, especially Kostecki who had shocked himself as he blazed to a 2:03.7733 in his first Bathurst 1000 shootout.
"I honestly couldn't give a s&*# if anyone beats me, that was awesome," he declared after finishing his lap.
"I had to have a good sleep last night, pull my finger out so this is just credit to the whole team."
With the Erebus duo disqualified Tim Slade was elevated from sixth to the second row on the grid, while the man who has already been crowned the 2021 Supercars champion, Red Bull Racing's Shane van Gisbergen, was boosted up from seventh to fifth..
No other driver in Saturday's session had more starts in the top 10 shootout than van Gisbergen, the Kiwi star making his 12th appearance.
But he admitted he "went to hard" in a lap which saw him make contact with the inside wall at Forrest's Elbow.
Will Davison, Nick Percat and Jack Le Brocq fill spots six to eight for Sunday's Great Race, which is set to start at 12.15pm
