The music video for 'Dead End Street' features the band's complete nine-piece configuration in a blank white room, with the video filmed in a grainy black-and-white wash to emulate the television performances of classic 1960s bands.
Vocalist, pianist and chief songwriter Kris Schubert said work on the music video was carried out in between lockdowns, making use of a large white wall he and wife/bandmate Lian Wong had constructed at home during the first lockdown last year.
"To properly make a music video for 'Dead End Street', we needed to get the full band together, so it was an exercise in patience," Schubert said.
"During lockdown, Lian and I were essentially living in a room with this wall we had made, so we used it as a backdrop to produce an energetic video paying tribute to the classic band appearances that were broadcast on television during the 1960s."
Schubert said 'Dead End Street' is one of the "rockier" songs on Let the River Go, placing significant focus on the groovy riffs of guitarist Stephen Helman.
"It was important to stand Stephen's guitar on its own in the mix for 'Dead End Street', as his riffs drive the entire song," he said.
"The guitar sits in seamlessly between the vocal lines, and it's always great to showcase this in the video format."
Schubert said 'Dead End Street' was written several years ago when he and Lian first moved to region, where they pondered whether leaving Sydney had been the right move.
"In the end, going country was something we always wanted to do, and it has worked out really well for us, but the song captures a fleeting moment of self-doubt where you start to second-guess everything," he said.
The Safety of Life at Sea have set a date for the long-awaited official launch of Let the River Go: Saturday, January 15 at The Great Club in Marrickville.
Schubert said the band also has a series of local dates coming up in the new year.
"We're really excited to be supporting The Whitlams at The Victoria Bathurst on January 16, and we'll be performing at Renzaglia Wines in February for a special event with a bunch of locals," he said.
"It's been enjoyable getting in touch with the music venues across the region again, and we're hoping to kick back into touring as much as we can."
