The vaccination mandate that will apply to all staff, students and visitors on all CSU campuses has been put in place following a survey of the university community that found overwhelming support for such a tough stance.

CSU vice-chancellor Professor Renée Leon said the university was committed to providing a safe environment as campuses reopen in the new year.

"As of 1 January 2022, it will be a condition of entry to any Charles Sturt University campus that all people - staff, students and visitors - are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with a TGA-approved vaccination," Professor Leon said.

"This decision follows a survey of staff and students in October in which 95 per cent of staff indicated they were already vaccinated or intended to be, and the overwhelming majority showed a preference that everyone on our campuses be vaccinated.

"There was also an extensive consultation process on a draft change proposal of this position.

"This decision allows the university to proactively focus on the health, safety and wellbeing of everyone - including the communities in which we operate - and to move back to a level of normality in our work and daily lives."

Professor Leon said CSU was looking forward to a return to normality in 2022 after two COVID-impacted years.

"With vaccination rates continuing to rise and booster shots being rolled out we are optimistic that 2022 is looking much more like 'business-as-usual' for Charles Sturt University," she said.

"Charles Sturt University will continue to align with government expert advice including the provision of booster vaccinations and other risk mitigation strategies as they come online.

"I want to thank the University's staff and students for their flexibility and resilience this year as we have faced challenges through multiple lockdowns and trying conditions. Together we have proven to be a strong and resilient community."

CSU's vaccination mandate will be reviewed in June 2022.
