After almost two years in the job, previous ministry assistant Emily Spindler has moved on and Salvation Army Bathurst corps officer Colin Young said they are expecting to welcome her replacement shortly.

"We do have someone who is replacing her and we're just not sure on start date, but it will be before the end of the month," he said.

The role includes managing worship services, co-ordinating other aspects of the Salvation Army ministry, including the community services office, which handles financial assistance, and operating the Salvos Store.

The Salvos Store has been out of action for around nine months due to the organisation being unable to find an appropriate site in which to set up after vacating its establishment in Keppel Street.

After months of searching for an appropriate facility, the Salvation Army made the decision to search for two smaller sites rather than one larger one and run its store and community services sections separately.

Mr Young said while they are still looking for a premises for the store, they are in the process of finalising a site for their corps and community services department with a real estate agency.

"It is in the process of finalising and we should know more in two weeks from today. I just can't say where it is yet," he said.

"We're still looking for another site for [the store].

"There's a phrase I've found that keeps people satisfied: we need a site that is suitable/affordable and we haven't found that suitable/affordable site yet."

Mr Young thanked the Neighbourhood Centre and the Uniting Church for their generosity and help while the Salvation Army has been looking for a premises in which to operate.

He also thanked the people of Bathurst for their support and generosity over the holiday to help make Christmas a little merrier for those less fortunate.
