Held as part of the Chifley Youth Mentoring program, children were invited to participate in a wide range of activities, including various sports, video games and craft.

Chifley Police District youth officer Senior Constable Rachael Joyce said both Tuesdays proved a success for the program.

"We had a number of children attend both Tuesdays with their families, and they were an absolute pleasure to entertain," Senior Constable Joyce said.

"Many children entered our colouring-in competition, and there was plenty of hat decorating and canvas painting going on."

Chifley Highway Patrol officers attended the program on Tuesday, and Senior Constable Joyce said the patrol motorcycle proved popular with the children.

"There were plenty of children eager to sit on the motorcycle and get their photo taken; the police vehicles always generate plenty of interest from the younger crowd," she said.

"We hope to continue running these programs throughout future school holidays at various locations across the police district, as they play a vital role as a early intervention initiative to swerve disadvantaged children away from a path into crime."

The Chifley Police District covers a wide range of localities across the Central West, including Bathurst, Blayney, Cowra, Lithgow, Oberon, Portland and Wallerawang.
