WHAT better way to start the year than by learning the art of entrepreneurship?
Spending the school holidays baking, singing and getting creative, three young Llanarth girls decided to take their talents out into the public eye.
Six-year-old Ivy Powell, eight-year-old Harper Smith and 11-year-old Mackenzie Smith spent their Wednesday outside enjoying the beautiful weather and working on their business leadership skills, running a stall in the front yard.
On the menu was a range of ice blocks, home-made cookies and brownies, cordial and some squishies that the girls made themselves.
"Me and Harper were making squishies yesterday and we decided to sell them and we came out to tell Mum and we just decided to do all this as well," Ivy said.
The cookies and brownies were made by Mackenzie, a bit of a cookie connoisseur who enjoys baking, along with Ivy, whose favourite part is "licking the bowl" at the end.
The entertainment was provided by Harper, who was strumming along on her guitar and even performed a song she had written about kindness.
The girls received quite a few visitors throughout the day who "nearly cleaned out our shop", according to Ivy.
Even Bathurst Regional councillor Ben Fry stopped in on his way past and purchased some goodies from the stall.
"It was great to see some youthful, entrepreneurial spirit out on show," Cr Fry said.
"Hats off to these three girls for making some extra pocket money during the school holidays.
"The cookies were outstanding and the cordial to water ratio was on point."
Instead of trying to agree on something they all want, the girls plan to split their earnings equally.
Ivy wants to spend her share on a notebook, Harper on some LOL Dolls and Mackenzie will put her money in a tin for saving.
"I'd just save mine up until I have enough money to get something I'll use a lot, like a camera or something," she said.
