Bark Audio was started by owner Josh Mesilane three years ago with a view to answer the audio needs for a wide range of clients, including bands, community events, and the odd private function.
Originally based in Kandos, Mr Mesilane moved to Bathurst six months ago, and said the work has started to gradually pick up.
"Bathurst Regional Council brought me on board to supply audio for the Winter Festival, and they've since brought me back for further events such as the recent New Year's Eve Party in the Park," he said.
"I've also had repeat work through the Rylstone and Kandos Show Society, and it's a business I hope to turn into a full-time job one day."
Mr Mesilane has shown a deep interest in audio engineering since he was a student at primary school, and came up with the name [and logo] for the business to honour his pet dog, 'Aidee'.
He said COVID-19 has proven a real challenge for the business, but has had the handy safeguard of a day job in IT.
"There's a lot of people in the industry who haven't been as fortunate, they've had to sell gear to pay the mortgage and even exit the field entirely," he said.
"This industry is all about networking and doing a satisfactory job to secure repeat work, as high-profile clients will always preference an audio engineer who can do a thorough job rather than those who offer the lowest fee."
Mr Mesilane said he's especially interested in doing sound for local bands, whether it be at a pub, a wedding or on the back of the truck.
"My jam is certainly working the sound for a band rocking out on the back of a truck," he said.
"It's often a complex task for both musicians event organisers to set up quality sound equipment, so I'm trying to help take the guess work out of it."
Bark Audio services the Central West, Blue Mountains, Hunter Valley and surrounds. For more information, visit the business' Facebook page.
