The NSW Government announced on Friday that the results will now be available on Thursday, January 20, rather than January 24 as originally scheduled, after the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) completed its marking and processing ahead of schedule.
The Universities Admission Centre will release ATARs [Australian Tertiary Admission Ranks] to students from 9am on January 20.

"NESA have worked overtime to get HSC results out on the 20th ... which is earlier than predicted," Mr Barwick said.
"The idea of that is to assist students with making decisions for university a bit ahead of time instead of waiting until just before Australia Day.
"It is good news for kids that they've managed to get that done and we're looking forward to our HSC results."

Despite an extremely disrupted year in 2021, Mr Barwick said the HSC ran very smoothly and the students seemed to be very focused throughout the exam period, so he expects they will return some good results.
Though a lot of students received early entry into university and many had their plans for this year already organised, receiving their ATARs could still change the direction they're heading.

"They may upgrade their preferences because of the results they get and go from there," Mr Barwick said.
"I think there'll be a few kids nervously waiting to see if they're going to get the ATARs that they need and then changing their preferences from there.
"Let's hope it's a good result and they can change their preferences in a positive way."
The ceremony for students who have achieved first place in a HSC course will be livestreamed from NESA's YouTube channel at 11am on Wednesday, January 19.
Results will then be delivered by SMS and email from 6am on Thursday.
The merits list will be published on the NESA website from midday, the NSW Government says.
