Given a perfect trip behind It's Business Time ($12, Jackson Searle) by Chelsea Ings in the Benchmark 58 Handicap (1,200 metres), Out Now peeled out to challenge the leader on the home stretch and won by a neck over the Allan McRae veteran.
It's not the first time that an Ings runner has caused a huge shock at the track.
"I actually had a winner one day, also at Cowra, called Martha Mary who paid 120-1. Cowra definitely seems to be a good stamping ground for us with big prices," Ings laughed.
"We used to pre-train this horse for Peter Snowden and he had a huge opinion of the horse and he thought he could be anything, but the horse was really immature and really babyish so he didn't quite put it together.
"This one's a half brother to Fiesta, a lovely mare of Chris Waller's. They also just sold a Justify filly at the Magic Millions out of the same mare. So Pete suggested to the owner 'Why not try Wanda with the horse'? We always got on well with him but he just always had things going wrong."
Ings couldn't stress how satisfying it was to see Out Now put a complete race together.
"When we won at Parkes with him we thought 'Oh he's come good, he'll just got through his grades' but we kept having hiccoughs with him," she said.
"This time in he's had no luck at all. He reared in the gates at Dubbo and then he got unbalanced and run off the turn at Wellington.
"Once he puts it together - and he's still on his way there - he could be a good horse. He's only had the 10 starts."
Roy McCabe's Know Where To Look ($3.10 favourite, Ashleigh Stanley) was third.
It was a great day out for Bathurst trainers at the Cowra meeting, with McCabe's The Drover and Gayna Williams' Gabrielle also taking victories.
