The program was started by the much-missed late Bob Dengate in January 1992.
In addition to Bob Dengate, original Jukebox presenters included Peter Lyon, Don Gordon and Terry Higgins.
Together they decided to start a show that was all about listener requests with a special focus on music from the 1960s.
As Bob said, "In 1991, the 1960s were a lot more recent."
The very first request was for Silver Threads And Golden Needles by The Springfields.
Peter Lyon was presenting the show and as the record wasn't on hand, he asked Bob to bring it to 2MCE.
Bob drove up to the station, 33+1/3 vinyl in hand, thinking this might be the only request they might ever receive.
But 30 years later, thousands of requests have been received from the Bathurst and Orange communities.
In 2018, Jukebox received a record of over 3000 requests in one year. Requests span songs from the 1960s through to today.
2MCE's Saturday Night Jukebox has taken the music to the community with outside broadcasts.
Highlights include an outside broadcast at Annie's Ice Creamery in 2012 to fundraise for Daffodil Cottage and a broadcast from Bathurst RSL in 2013.
Alumni of the Saturday Night Jukebox team have included Cathy Alexis, Zak Caban, Brian Harvey, Mal Kiely, Lisa, Justin, and Sue Lloyd, Al McCartan, Tad Pietrzykowski, Adam Thompson, Lawrence Wardman, Tim Williams, and David Winter.
The current team of Jukebox presenters are Jeff Cox, Ron Gibson, Rielle Moises and Noah Secomb.
On Saturday, 6-10pm, they take your requests on 6331 0092 or the text line 0412 009 923.
Saturday Night Jukebox is taking a break this month, but stay tuned for on-air 30th anniversary celebrations.
Happy birthday, Saturday Night Jukebox.
A special country mix
AT this time of year, 2MCE country music presenter Rick Nash would usually be up in Tamworth for the Tamworth Country Music Festival.
Unfortunately, the festival has been postponed until April due to COVID-19 restrictions.
To honour the artists who were due to feature at Tamworth Country Music Festival, Rick will be presenting a four-hour special of Rick's Country Mix on Saturday, January 29.
It will feature interviews with artists and a huge CD and vinyl giveaway.
You can hear Rick's Country Mix from 2pm every Saturday on 2MCE.
