HAVING to make regular trips to a far corner of Sydney over the past few weeks, I've been using public transport instead of driving.

It's worked very well: buses and trains always clean and on time, and I've felt safe (from the virus).
I always walk the 25 minutes to and from the railway station.
Returning on the Bullet the other day I was confronted with a bit of a problem.
It was raining, I didn't have a raincoat, I had two small cases to carry instead of one, and it's uphill all the way home.
It turned out to be no problem: just as I walked out of the station, three local buses turned up going to all parts of Bathurst.
I chose the 526. I was the only passenger and was dropped off very near my house.
This is an incredible service provided by Bathurst Buslines and more people should be using it.
Thanks to Transport for NSW and the NSW government, the total cost for my trip home was $3.60.
The worst part of the journey was the last 30m to my front door, as I still got wet.
The best part? Taking into account all the costs of private car travel, I reckon I have saved well over $1000 in my three trips to Sydney and back.
