Our newest Australians calling Bathurst home come from a number of countries, including the Philippines, South Korea, India, Pakistan, the USA, China and the Ukraine.
It was a privilege to induct you as citizens and welcome you into our community on our national day.
It was also my pleasure to spend time with our Australia Day ambassador Tiffany Thomas Kane, Paralympic gold medallist.
Ms Kane has represented Australia at two Paralympics and World Championships.
From her debut on the international sporting scene at 13, where she broke a world record, to claiming gold and three bronze medals at Rio and representing her country again in Tokyo, Tiffany has, at just 20, achieved so much and her story was an inspiration to us all.

We're determined to get students back into the classroom safely
IT'S great that students will be able to return to school under COVID-smart settings that will minimise the risk of the virus and allow teachers and pupils to return safely to the classroom.
As part of the new measures, every student and teacher in NSW government and non-government schools will be able to receive rapid antigen test (RAT) kits before school returns on February 1.
Families will be notified by their schools on how and when to collect the RAT kits for their children.
Supporting students to return safely to the classroom is vital after two years of disruption to their education because we know that our kids learn best when they're in the classroom with their teacher and peers.
New COVID-smart measures will help make this happen, including surveillance testing both students and staff twice weekly with RATs.
What is most important about this approach is that it allows students to enjoy all aspects of their schooling in a safe and sensible way.
The government is distributing more than 12 million RATs to more than 3150 government, non-government schools and early childhood centres to assist with surveillance testing of staff and students.
The testing complements other COVID-smart measures in schools, including mandatory vaccination for staff, increased vaccination coverage for students, mask-wearing, cleaning and limited visitors on-site.
Activities students love, such as music, school sport and assemblies, will continue with settings in place similar to late last year.

Great line-up for concerts
CHRISTINE Anu, Shannon Noll and Phil Burton from Human Nature will lead the line-up for the highly anticipated Premier's Gala Concerts during this year's NSW Seniors' Festival.
Free tickets to the concerts, to be held at ICC Sydney on March 30 and 31, 2022, will be available through Ticketek from 9am on Friday, January 28.
The NSW Government hosts the Premier's Gala Concerts each year to thank seniors for their contributions to our communities.
These concerts are hugely popular among our seniors for good reason.
They provide a great opportunity for them to enjoy musical and variety acts from some of Australia's favourite artists, as well as have fun and meet new friends.
The concerts will be live-streamed so that residents who can't attend in person can still enjoy the shows.
Tickets to the Premier's Gala Concerts can be booked via Ticketek online at www.ticketek.com.au or by phone on 1300 130 613.
The NSW Government will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation to ensure the Premier's Gala Concerts are run safely.
For more information about the concerts (including the live-stream link), expo and other events and activities happening during the NSW Seniors' Festival, visit www.seniorsfestival.nsw.gov.au.
