Photon Energy is seeking to establish a 200-hectare solar farm that would see around 400,000 solar panels installed on private land at Brewongle, angering neighbours who say the location is an unsuitable choice, and the project would not come before council for discussion.
But in a notice of motion to be tabled at Wednesday night’s meeting, Cr North will ask his fellow councillors to take a position on the proposal and call for council to “write to Photon Energy and request that they identify an alternative site for their proposed solar plant installation so that it is not located on prime agricultural land”.

A community meeting organised last month by the Brewongle Action Group nominated another possible site on the same property to establish the solar farm that would greatly limit its impact on neighbours.
Meeting chairman Peter Hennessy said 26 residences would see the solar panels from their homes or properties if the project was approved in its current form.
He said, however, that the alternate site would have less visual impact on neighbours.
“It wouldn’t be in their [neighbours’] front yards and none of them would be impacted by the view,” Mr Hennessy said.
Photon Energy has previously claimed it investigated a number of sites for its proposed solar farm before settling on the Brewongle property as the most viable option.
