The contingent of Bathurst Wallabies Triathlon Club members that competed at the Forbes Triathlon on Sunday continued what has been an impressive season thus far with a string of strong results.
Across the men’s events, Bathurst triathletes enjoyed both outright victories and category successes.
Thomas Hanrahan placed second outright in the Crocs Long Course event, finding the challenging Half Ironman distance (1.9 kilometre swim, 90km cycle and a 21km run) very enjoyable.
“I am pretty happy with the triathlon. It was a stinking hot day actually, but otherwise it was really good,” Hanrahan said.

“I really liked the Forbes Triathlon a lot. It was great to compete the swim section in fresh water, instead of the usual pool. Going in and out of trees and being under shade for much of the run was also really good, and to have the crowd cheering and having their support really helped.”
Fellow Wallaby Luke Gillmer filled the final spot on the long course outright podium.
Having been undefeated this triathlon season, Nick North continued his dominance as he won outright on the Crocs Challenge course (750 metre swim, a 30km cycle and a 7km run) with a time of one hour, 20 minutes and 56 seconds. Club-mate Mark Windsor ran second, two and a half minutes behind.
“I am really happy for the win, especially as I did the full seven kilometre run and not cross the bridge. There was a bridge during the course you could choose to cross which cut out one kilometre. It was great to win and do the full course,” North said.
This was North’s third time racing in Forbes and he rates the growing event highly.
“It is a really good event. This was my third year heading to Forbes and it was also the third different distance that I have completed. The event is nice and flat and I really feel that anyone can come to the event and be able to accomplish it,” North said.
