The popular New Year’s Eve celebration, hosted by Bathurst Regional Council, provides an opportunity for everyone to enjoy family-friendly and budget-friendly entertainment on the special night.
Mayor Graeme Hanger was at the park just as the event got underway and said he was pleased to see people had already staked out their areas for the night.
“People get here early to get good spots,” he said.
He anticipated there would be a crowd of thousands by the end, saying people would be “streaming in from all sides” of the park.
Party in the Park had a long list of entertainment options for people, including $2 rides on Durham Street, a jumping castle for the kids, an affordable photobooth and live music.
On the musical entertainment bill were three local acts, something Cr Hanger was particularly pleased to see.
“These girls are Sweet Revenge and they are from MacKillop [College], there’s Matt Boylan-Smith and Bootleggers are local too,” he said.
The night was due to be capped off with a 10-minute fireworks display at 9pm, provided by Howard and Sons Pyro Technics.
Cr Hanger said the Adventure Playground was the perfect location for people to enjoy New Year’s Eve, particularly to watch the fireworks.
“It’s so central, with a natural slope, that’s the good thing about it,” he said.
