A 40-YEAR-OLD Bathurst man assisting police with their investigations into the stabbing death of a 49-year-old man in Rocket Street remains in police custody as detectives continue their inquiries.

The man was arrested at the scene by police just after 9am and has been interviewed by detectives throughout the day.
Police and paramedics rushed to the unit complex opposite Centennial Park in Rocket Street after receiving a triple 000 call at 8.26am today.
When they arrived they found a 49-year-old Bathurst man suffering from a stab wound to the chest. The victim died at the scene.
Police cordoned off the area and established a crime scene, placing the entire block of units in lock down as forensic officers scoured the area for evidence.
Inspector Mark Wall, who was at the crime scene said police were called to the unit after receiving a report of a disturbance.
"A 49-year-old man was found with chest injuries, he was treated at the scene by paramedics but unfortunately died as a result of his injuries," Inspector Wall said.
Inspector Wall said a 40-year-old man, who also lives in the complex was arrested at the scene and taken to Bathurst Police Station for questioning.
Police said they expected charges would be laid relation to the incident.
