The local bakery came up trumps at the recent Great Aussie Pastie Competition, winning gold for its seafood pastie.
It claimed a further five medals with its line of gourmet pies in Australia’s Best Pie Competition.
Both competitions were conducted by industry body Baking Associations of Australia.
Carah’s pastry chef manager Tim Hall said the team – which also included apprentices Chris Dove and Aaron Edwards – posted wins in every category it entered.
“We had our big win with our salmon pastie, which they we’re absolutely stoked about,” Mr Hall said. “And every gourmet pie we entered won a silver medal, including our pepper steak, steak and mushroom, steak and kidney, chicken and mushroom and steak diane pies.” Mr Hall said his team’s passion for perfection got them over the line.
“It was a big day, but it was well worth it,” he said. “For us, it’s about quality control. We entered the competition with the same high standard that the people of Bathurst get everyday.
It was a particularly momentous win for the 26-year-old, who has spent the past decade polishing his trade at the Keppel Street bakery. “I love what I do,” he said. He said the team’s win was a testament to the strong support of Colleen Carah.
