Kylie, from Eglinton, who is now attached to the Blue Mountains Local Area Command, is one of 202 probationary constables attested from Class 318 of the Associate in Policing Practice.
Probationary Constable Ellsmore is a 40-year-old wife and mother from Eglinton.
Before joining the NSW Police Force, Kylie trained and worked as a hairdresser, in hospitality and, for the past five years, worked in administration at an aged care facility in the Bathurst.
Kylie said she had almost given up on her dream to become a police officer.
“Policing was something I had wanted to pursue for a long time, but it was difficult to find the time with a husband and three young kids, who are my whole life,” Kylie said.
“But, three years ago with the support of my family, I decided it was time to make the time for me.”
Kylie was able to complete the first session of the Associate Degree in Policing via distance education with Charles Sturt University.
“With my family commitments, the distance pathway is the only way I could have made it into the police force. I’m so glad it was an option, I think it is brilliant.”
For Kylie, her journey through the NSW Police Academy is also a lesson for her children.
“I wanted to show my children that nothing should stand in the way of your dreams or aspirations.”
