Alan Wright, who founded the business in Cobar in 1974 and still owns the company, was on hand to accept the 2013 Crowe Horwath Carillon Award at the gala presentation evening on Friday.
Alan’s son Peter, who now directs the company, said he felt humbled to receive such an incredible accolade.
“We felt privileged to be nominated, and then to win the category was exceptional.
“But when they announced us as the winner of the big one, we were amazed,” he said.
Peter said winning the award capped off an amazing year for the business.
“We are just about to step into our 40th year,” he said.
“When Dad began the company back in 1974, it was a two-man business.
“It began out in Cobar. The mines needed a printer, but then they went bad and Dad moved the business to Bathurst.
“Since we came to Bathurst we’ve moved locations a couple of times, getting bigger every time.
“The first few premises we rented, but we own the building where are now.”
Peter said the business now has nine staff, and this award was a testament to their passion.
“Printing [in the digital age] is a tough business, it’s really hard.
“We’ve had to change the way we do business to accommodate what our customers and the market requires.
“We are continually keeping up-to-date with technology,” he said.
Peter said he wanted to thank their loyal customers and staff who made the award possible.
“We always try and do our very best on a consistent basis.
“All my staff are passionate about what they do and we really love dealing with other good businesses,” he said.
Peter said the top business award was a great tribute to his father.
“He kicked Central Commercial Printers off 40 years ago and made it what it is today.
“No one goes into business for awards, but it is certainly nice to be recognised.”
