Only frozen and canned corn, and the iconic Chiko roll, will continue to be produced at Bathurst as it becomes a one shift plant.
Simplot Australia announced its decision to downsize its Australian vegetable operations at Bathurst yesterday.
It will be retaining its Devonport plant.
Management at the Bathurst plant has been involved in a Herculean effort to keep the facility open, successfully obtaining local and state government support as well as incredible community support.
However, Simplot Australia managing director Terry O’Brien said Simplot has been forced to make a commercial decision about the future of the plant.
