The International Day, which began last year, saw more than 3000 registered gaming events held in 64 countries worldwide.
Bathurst Library Gaming Group’s event will be among more than 80 events registered across Australia.
Organiser Adam Hock said he was delighted that the club had decided to bring the international day to Bathurst for the first time.
“This is our first time running this event, but the group has been going for around six months,” he said.
Mr Hock said the there would be a wide array of games to play on the day and cakes and biscuits to enjoy.
He said there would be a mix of party, entry-level, strategic and kids games, and some of the games would be Ticket to Ride, Settlers of Catan and even Monopoly.
Mr Hock said the day was about bringing people together and getting them to connect.
“The idea is to try and get people off the computer and interact with other people and have some fun,” he said. “It is also a great chance to introduce people to new games.
“A lot of people only know of older games like Scattergories, so it is a way to introduce new and fun games to the mainstream.”
He noted that in recent years board games had been making a comeback.
“The board gaming industry is growing quite rapidly again,” he said.
He said that while board games were often thought of as a children’s past time, there were plenty of games for adults to enjoy.
“Monopoly and Scattergories seem to be the only games a lot of adults can play, and this is probably all they may find if they go to a shopping centre,” he said.
“But online there are thousands of games, many of them are very strategic and aren’t for kids. I’ve got roughly 130 different board games and a different member has 150 games.”
Mr Hock said they would be bringing as many games as they could carry to the library today.
Mr Hock said he wanted to see lots of people come along and he hoped it would help the club recruit more members.
He said the club currently meet at the library on the first and third Saturday of every month.
