CALTEX Park was in pristine condition for the Wallabies visit yesterday, thanks to the effort of a number of Dubbo City Council employees.
Staff were at the ground soon after play finished in Sunday’s Group 11 clash between Dubbo CYMS and Wellington to clear the amenities and prepare the playing surface.
Council’s recreational services manager James McKechnie watched on with pride as the facility got its second major test of the year after the NRL held its Country-City match at the ground three months prior.
“We had the double on the weekend with the Rhinos playing here on Saturday and CYMS on Sunday but the staff have done a great job to have it in such good shape for today,” McKechnie said.
“We were mindful that we love to have these major events here but at the same time we want to look after our regular users as well and the fact we have spent the money here to bring the surface up to standard and on the amenities is paying off.”
Mayor Mathew Dickerson said events such as yesterday’s were a perfect example of why the city was fast becoming the sporting hub of the central west.
“Time and again we are showing that we can handle these major sporting events in Dubbo and it’s great for the city,” he said.
“The timing of this visit is perfect with the Waratahs winning the Super Rugby competition and such positivity surrounding rugby.
“We’re glad we’ve been able to show Dubbo to the Wallabies and hopefully they will return at some stage in the future.”
