Beginning her degree at the University of Wollongong, Ms Knight moved to Charles Sturt University (CSU) to pursue a double degree of history and English. 

“The representation of the cultural arts in regional towns and cities is much lower than it should be,’’ she said.

“I would love to be a part of bringing to light our cultural heritage.”

Volunteering at the historical society, Ms Knight is hoping to develop skills associated with her studies, and to focus on educating the community about Bathurst’s rich history.

Bathurst District Historical Society president Alan McRae, who has been working closely with Ms Knight, said she is very enthusiastic.

Ms Knight will be spending some time in the National Museum of Australia in Canberra later this year to work on research for an upcoming exhibition. 

She already has plans to undertake an internship next year in Ireland to get a taste of another country’s methods of heritage conservation.

Ms Knight has encouraged more people to get involved in their own history.

“Take a look at your family history, where you live, how things used to be. You never know what you will find.”
