IT’S NOT every day you get the opportunity to buy a former Cobb and Co coach stop.
When 3390 O’Connell Road goes to auction next month, on offer will be more than just your average home, it will be a piece of Bathurst history.
The property was once the last stop on the way to Bathurst for Cobb and Co coaches on what used to be the main road to Sydney.
Stagecoaches were required to stop every 12 miles to change their horses, and some stops, like 3390 O’Connell Road, had rooms for overnight stay.
While the home is now unrecognisable from the building that once stood on the property, it retains an air of old-age charm.
This four-bedroom home, with potential for a fifth, has been modestly restored throughout and features two living areas, three bathrooms and a loft.
A lot of the original architecture remains both indoors and outdoors on this 20-acre property, including the cobblestone flooring of the coachhouse and a 35-foot well, which is now contained by glass beneath the recently built atrium.
Upon entering the grounds you are met with manicured, park-like gardens, containing a courtyard, double garage and stables, currently used as a machinery shed.
Indoors, this house is the epitome of the family home, featuring spacious living areas and central bedrooms, two with ensuites.

However, the star of this house is the glass atrium.

The property’s temporary caretaker, Trevor Smith, believes this house would be well suited to families and said there is potential for horses to be kept on the grounds.
“It’s ideal for a large family with young kids,” he said.
LJ Hooker director Zac Theobald says the property has already attracted plenty of interest despite only being on the market for a short time.
“It is not every day an opportunity arises to purchase a home with such character and history,” he said.
The property will be auctioned on October 4 on site.
