He shaved his mo off yesterday and said he had been looking forward to the day.
Mr Parslow said he was tired of needing to clean up after every meal.
Although he has taken part in Movember before, he said his contribution has generally been growing a mo without giving much thought to fundraising.
“This year I realised it wouldn’t hurt to use it as an opportunity to educate the kids,” he said.
“A lot of families have been touched by cancer.
“It’s also a great fundraiser.”
So with great enthusiasm, Mr Parslow organised the Movember Games, in which nine teachers and 27 year six students faced off in a series of challenges.
The teachers took out the prize on this occasion, but Mr Parslow said the year five students already have their eyes on next year’s title.
The students had the time of their lives, even attaching their own impressive mos.
With every child in the school bringing in a gold coin donation, Mr Parslow was able to donate $300 to prostate cancer awareness for Movember.
He said he feels it is important to raise awareness in the students that there are different types of cancer – it is not restricted to breast cancer in women.
“I also wanted to create something for the year sixes to look forward to at the end of the year,” he said.
The Movember Games were made up of a basketball shootout, a football shootout and a soccer shootout.
“The whole school came out to watch. Everyone was cheering their heads off,” Mr Parslow said.
“I am hoping to make it an annual event. The kinders were so excited. They can’t wait until they are old enough to take on their teachers.”
There is now a busy couple of weeks ahead for the school as it moves towards the Christmas holidays.
