Summers ran three-minute kilometres to hit the finish line in 15 minutes and four seconds, while Janene Wood, was the first female across the line.
The pair set two of the fastest five kilometre times seen at the festival.
Summers’ run would have seen him claim last year’s title by a staggering two minutes and 34 seconds, while Woods’ time of 15 minutes and 41 seconds would have seen her smash last year’s field by over three minutes, or a whole kilometre.
As a number of runners participating in yesterday’s festival did, Josh Torley backed up his 10km second with another silver in the 5km event, pacing at 3.09 minute kilometres to finish second of the men in 15.46.
Alan Cragie was third with 16.02.
Melissa Duncan was the second fastest female in the event, stopping the clock at 17.03, while Jessica Pascoe crossed the line in third in 18.51.
