The 22-year-old was crowned Miss Showgirl, and 23-year-old Jacinta Knight was named runner-up, at a gala event on Saturday night at Bathurst Panthers.
“I was shocked more than anything. It was an incredibly diverse group of women,” Ms Piper said.
“I think it’s a great opportunity and fantastic for like-minded women.”
In the lead-up to the judging, Ms Piper said she was keen to give back to the show that was so much a part of her life when she was growing up in the Bathurst region.
“I’m keen to be an ambassador for young women in agriculture living in rural/regional areas,
promote the longevity of communities and families within Australia and to gain fantastic life experience and knowledge,” she said.
Ms Knight said she was eager to expand her presence within the Bathurst community, be a representative for the area and develop her skills through the competition.
Miss Showgirl co-ordinator Vicki Wilson said the competition showcases entrants’ personalities and confidence.
She said all 10 women taking part in this year’s competition were of a high standard.
The competition not only helps women promote themselves, but it can also be of benefit to the winner and runner-up’s careers.
Entrants in the competition are asked a range of questions that test their local and international knowledge.
“They touch on local news and international news and topics The Land newspaper has had in the last few weeks,” Ms Wilson said.
Ms Piper and the other nine Miss Showgirl entrants will take part in events and present awards from this Friday to Sunday at the Royal Bathurst Show.
“The girls are so excited,” Ms Wilson said.
Ms Piper will take part in the zone six showgirl final in Parkes next February along with 25 other Miss Showgirl winners from shows in the zone.
“There’s 39 shows in our zone, but not all have a Miss Showgirl competition,” Ms Wilson said.
From there, the top three Miss Showgirls from the zone final will go on to compete at Sydney Royal in 2016.
Around 600 women take part in Miss Showgirl competitions each year across NSW.
