In a continuation of the city’s bicentenary festivities, the digital projections will celebrate the city’s links with motorsport and the future possibilities.
The Illuminate Bathurst festival will run each night from October 10-18, lighting up at five CBD locations.
Bathurst mayor Gary Rush confessed he had already had a “sneak peek” of the projections – and was impressed.
He said while many race fans do not venture into the CBD, he is hopeful this new attraction might make the difference.
“The whole experience with people who come to the Mount is for them to be at the Mount, but given the Illuminate Bathurst is going to have a motorsport theme, we are hopeful people will come,” he said.
As in the two Illuminate Bathurst showings held earlier this year, the illuminations will feature on the court house, the old TAFE building on William Street, the Bathurst War Memorial Carillon, and in Ribbon Gang and Pedrottas lanes.
The traditional street fair will return, to be held on Saturday, October 10.
This year, however, it will run from noon until 8pm, offering a variety of food and market stalls, entertainment, children’s activities and rides.
Also included in the off-track events during Race Week is the Ignite the Night window display competition.
Local businesses are encouraged to decorate and light up their shopfront window to be in the running for a $5000 first prize.
But they’ll have to be quick, because entries close today. To register, call Bathurst Regional Council on 6333 6111.
The Legendary Moments Dinner at Rydges Mount Panorama on Thursday, October 8 is already sold out.
The Bathurst Bicentenary Gala Ball on Friday, October 9 is also sold out.
