Assistant principal Linda Kerr said the program, which is held every year, teaches students how to stay safe when they are on their bikes.
“A lot of the kids ride bikes to school, but as they get older they ride everywhere, so it’s important they are aware of safety requirements,” she said.
The day involved all students and also covered obstacle courses, precision riding and figure-eights.
“Different stages did different skills,” she said.
“Some learnt about road safety, or how to give way, others learnt about stopping and scanning for traffic, or simply putting their feet on the ground when they are stopping – little things, but important for their safety.”
Mrs Kerr said the program involved more than one day.
“We’ve been learning things in the classroom during the week,” she said.
Students also had the chance to win bike prizes thanks to Wheelers Cycles.
“We had a ‘design a bike helmet’ competition with Wheelers donating prizes,” she said.
Mrs Kerr said yesterday that all the kids were having a ball.
“Everyone is having a great time, and the rain didn’t stop us. We were almost going to call it off, but we’re glad we didn’t.
“We have plenty of concrete areas here where they were able to do the obstacle course.”
