The Chifley Home will be one of the attractions highlighted in a marketing campaign that will be paid for by the money.
Member for Bathurst Paul Toole yesterday said the funds – awarded under the NSW Government’s Regional Visitor Economy Fund – would help deliver the next phase of Central NSW Tourism’s Unearth Central NSW campaign.
Mr Toole said Bathurst had already seen an increase in the number of visitor overnight stays and the marketing that will be carried out using the funding will build on that.
“Tourism is vital to our economy here in Bathurst,” he said. “There are so many facilities, events and attractions.”
Central NSW Tourism executive officer Lucy White said the Chifley Home was one example of the attractions that will be highlighted in the marketing campaign.
She said there were not many places where people could have the experience of walking through a home where an Australian prime minister once lived.
Ms White said the Australian Fossil and Mineral Museum would also be highlighted.
Ms White said Central NSW Tourism worked closely with Bathurst Regional Council in the city’s bicentenary year.
Mayor Gary Rush welcomed the funding.
“From our point of view it’s good to be part of a regional tourism organisation which has the reputation of being one of the best in the state,” he said.
“Chifley Cottage will certainly benefit, along with many other tourism attractions across the Central West.”
