SOON-to-be-constructed football fields on Hereford Street have received a big thumbs up from St Pat's players and coaches.
Junior and senior Pat's Rugby League Club players have been without a home ground since they finished playing at Jack Arrow Oval following their 2012 season.
They have since played on a variety of fields across Bathurst, and have shared the Sportsground with other sports as their main ground.
The Western Advocate reported last September that Bathurst Regional Council had set aside $2.5 million for the construction of four new fields on a
tract of land on Hereford Street.
Council has now called for tenders to get the construction of the first two fields underway.
St Pat's senior secretary Gary Goldsmith said he couldn't be happier for his club.
"To say we are delighted would be an understatement," he said.
"It's massive for the code in that it allows the 21 teams that Bathurst St Pat's have to start to form a base after we lost our ground [at Jack Arrow]."
The four fields will be constructed alongside the club's soon-to-be-built clubhouse.
The Advocate reported last September that the club had received a $75,000 Footy Facilities Fund grant to go towards a new clubhouse.
The fund is a joint initiative between the NRL and the NSW Government to assist grassroots football clubs across the state.
Mr Goldsmith also praised council and Member for Bathurst Paul Toole for their support of the club through the new fields and clubhouse.
"Council have been awesome ... it's a massive vote of confidence in sport in Bathurst," he said.
Mr Goldsmith also praised the many St Pat's supporters and volunteers for their behind-the scenes work for the club.
The tender, as announced by council, includes earthworks, stormwater drainage, irrigation and turf.
The closing date is March 1, 2016.
