Honey Month Talks. Beginning in Bees. Bathurst Library 70-78 Keppel Street 3pm. Janet Sutherland is a local amateur beekeeper, who is passionate about her bees and spreading the word about their importance. Janet will talk about her experiences as a new beekeeper. Members and friends of Bathurst BMX Club. On today will be the second Come and Try Day for the year. Next Saturday 21st May 11pm. Please share this with your friends to get the word out there that this is there opportunity to ride our magnificent track and it is FREE. There will be Accredited Coaches on hand to show how it is done and then will follow straight into a Club race meet
Poetry Slam. BMEC 105 William Street 7.30pm. Poetry slam is the art of competitive poetry. A fast paced competition where poets have a limited amount of time to impress judges who are selected from the audience. Great prizes to be won, sections for under 18s and adults. Free Kids Writing Workshop with Paul Stafford. BMEC 105 William Street. The workshops are from 10am - 11.30am for ages 7-10 years (Primary School Yrs 2-4) and then continue on at 1.30pm - 3pm for ages 11-12 years (Primary School Yrs 5&6). There are limited places available so make sure you register with Books Plus by calling 6331 5994. Participants will need to bring writing materials on the day. Oxides, Hydroxides & Halides. Australian Fossil and Mineral Museum Saturday May 21 from 2.30pm. This the second of three Museum Cabinet lectures to be given by Ernst Holland, this lecture will concentrate on the mineral cabinet containing important Oxides such a Hematite, Chromite and various col-ourful gemstone minerals. Ernst will provide a not too technical but at the same time informative insight into how these minerals are formed, found, and what they are used for. Tickets $8, RSVP call 6331 5511
Honey Month Talks. A Life in Beekeeping. Bathurst Library 70-78 Keppel Street 10.30am. Robert Porter is a third generation beekeeper and runs about 350 hives. He has been involved in the industry for over 50 years. A migratory beekeeper, his hives are taken thousands of kilometers each year in search of honey and pollen sources. They also are taken to the almond plantations of the Riverina in spring to pollinate the crop. Over 200,000 hives from four states were transported to the almond orchards last year. Come and learn about the critical role bees play in food production and the work involved in keeping bees. The talk will be followed by discussion and a morning tea. Greater Western All Breeds dog club will be holding a Trial for Obedience and a new form Rally-Obedience on Sat. 21st. and Sun. 22nd. May at the Showground. It begins at 8:30 both days and we expect around 700 to 800 dogs over the weekend.

Bathurst Arts Council 2016 Annual General Meeting. The 2016 Annual General Meeting of the Bathurst Arts Council will be held on Tuesday May 24th at 5.30 pm in the Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre. All those interested in any aspect of the arts in Bathurst are invited to attend. Light refreshments will be available after the meeting.

My Block. Ever wondered what has happened on the block where you live? Well the 'My Block Tours' are the start to unravelling the history of your front yard. This 1.5 hour tour will take you around Block 32, encompassing William, Lambert, George and Piper Streets.
