A strong representation of 25 Bathurst players were part of a successful campaign across several age groups for Western.
Western won five of the eight age divisions.
They also managed to score runner-up finishes in two other age divisions and took out the Mike McDermid Shield for the most overall points won on the weekend.
It was a rewarding experience for all Bathurst players involved, given how tough the selection and training process is to qualify as a Western Conference Hockey player.
“The Western Conference Hockey teams were selected from the district hockey teams of Bathurst, Lithgow, Parkes, Orange and Dubbo,” under 11s boys Manager Anthony Clark said.
“We were particularly pleased to see a large number of our top Bathurst players from U11s through to U15s girls and boys being selected, and they all represented Bathurst Hockey with a strong show of skill and positional play.”
Junior girls district committee member Lesley Kidd said Western punched above its weight at the carnival.
“They’re playing off against some of the top Sydney and Canberra teams and it’s great to see that they’re able to hold their own against regions with a much bigger population to choose their players from,” she said.
“For them to get chosen and then do so well down there is a great effort. They really shone down there.”
