But, late Wednesday they were yet to release his name with the man’s family still to be advised of his death.
The single car accident occurred on the Sofala Road, around two kilometres north of Pyrmonts Lane at Peel, just after 1pm.
Police investigations suggest the white Toyota sedan, being driven by a man, left the road and crashed into a tree. The driver, and only occupant of the car, died at the scene.
Chifley Local Area Command duty officer Inspector Chris Sammut said police would not release the man’s name until his family had been notified.
“There’s still notifications for the next-of-kin to be done,” he said.
Inspector Sammut said local forensic services officers are conducting an investigation into the cause of the accident and among other things will consider if speed was an issue.
