The 80-metre long collapse occurred alongside a concrete footpath, behind the Bathurst Showground.
Well above average rainfall has been recorded in the catchment so far this winter, and now the quick-moving Macquarie River’s water level is sitting well above its usual height.
Mayor Gary Rush confirmed the heavy flows in the river had damaged the banks.
“With the high level of the river some of it [the riverbank] did subside just behind the showground,” Cr Rush said.
“An 80 metre area has subsided to varying degrees.”
When the Western Advocate visited on Friday, people were seen walking around the “no entry” signs towards the affected area.

Cr Rush asked people to obey the signage and not to enter the area until the riverbank collapse and nearby footpath have been assessed.
He said the engineering department would assess the riverbank situation to see how it could be rectified.
