Architect Henry Bialowas was named the third recipient of Bathurst Regional Council’s Ron Camplin Award during a ceremony on Friday night.
Mr Bialowas designed Bathurst’s bicentenary flagstaff and Anglican Cathedral belltower, but is also well-known locally as an author and musician with the Macquarie Philharmonia, RSL Concert Band, Macquarie Male Singers and Carillon Theatrical Society.
He joins Ron Camplin and Maurice McNeil as the only winners of the award that was instituted by council in 2008 to honour residents who have made an outstanding contribution to the region.
Mr Bialowas, who arrived in Bathurst as four-year-old refugee following World War 2, said he was humbled to receive the award.
“I am greatly honoured but whatever I may have done in this community is nothing compared with the privileges and opportunities this town has given me,” he said.
