Tucking into a lovely lamington when you know the purchase price is going to a good cause, that’s what.
Parade is reliably informed that some of Bathurst’s firies will be selling lamingtons in the CBD this weekend to raise money for Motor Neurone Disease research.
The lamingtons will be sold on Saturday from both Woolworths stores in town and all money raised will go towards the vital research.
The fundraiser comes as local firies prepare to take part in a stair climb fundraiser in October in the Sydney Tower to raise money for the same cause.
The Firefighters Climb for Motor Neurone Disease event, on Sunday, October 23, will involve hundreds of firefighters wearing full firefighting kit ascending all 98 floors of the Sydney Tower.
Those who would like to sponsor the local firefighters taking part in the climb – or sponsor any of the firefighters taking part in the climb – should visit the website www.firiesclimbformnd.org.au/
And in the meantime, start building up a hunger for those lamingtons.
Face it, only some can make the list
WELL, it looks like Ferry McFerryface is not going to grace Sydney Harbour.
Parade wrote in this space in July about the dangers of the NSW Government appealing to the public to name Sydney’s new fleet of ferries.
Parade said it sounded dangerously like the UK Government’s decision to hold a public poll to decide the name of that country’s new polar research ship.
Boaty McBoatface eventually topped that poll, but was, unsurprisingly, not used as the name of the ship (though it was used as the name of the ship’s remotely operated undersea vehicle).
Parade has seen the final list of names for Sydney Harbour’s new ferries, on which the public will now be asked to vote, and it contains a number of worthy suggestions.
There’s Dorothea Mackellar (has a nice ring to it), Victor Chang, Fred Hollows and Bennelong, among others, though Parade’s favourite is Eternity (remember Arthur Stace?).
