Mariners didn’t enjoy the best season in NSWPL3 but had hope they could get an upset win with the scores 1-all late in the first half.
Unfortunately the rest of the match didn’t go to script.
”We were trying to go out on a high note but it became the same old story for us,” Mariners captain Adam Scimone said.
"We came out strong and it was a level playing field for half an hour. They got a goal off a corner but we responded when Matt Hobby got a great goal on the right wing.
“Unfortunately they got a cheeky goal just before half-time. We knew we could get that goal back … [but] when they got an early penalty that put us on the back foot.
“We kept throwing everything we had at them, and had plenty of good chances, but their ‘keeper had such a good game.”
Mariners finished their season with just two wins from 22 matches.
