THE market suggested Monday’s Fifty8 George Maiden (450 metres) was going to be Dashandy Jack against everyone else, and that’s how it played out.

Short-priced favourite Dashandy Jack ($1.50) got away well from box six and never looked headed to take a career first victory.
Oscar The Weapon ($5.10) and Peggy Wren ($15.90) were one and two lengths away from the leader respectively.
The winning time was 26.20 seconds.
Co-trainer Adam Crouch, of South Windsor, said his Spring Gun x Dashandy Black runner has shown a lot of potential in three starts.
“He looks like he’ll go alright. The whole litter has been pretty handy. It’s his third start but he’s had a pretty limited prep. He should get to 500m in no time. They all still only young,” he said.
“He’s always been a consistent beginner. He’s a bit over the top at the start, gets worked up before the races, but if he stays calm he could turn out to be an alright dog.”
Peggy Wren was one of the best away from box one but went wayward before the turn.
There was little to separate Dashandy Jack and Oscar The Weapon over the opening 50m but coming onto the back straight the favourite began to pull away.
The victory for Dashandy Jack follows on from back-to-back second place results at Richmond to start his career.
