The Perthville Neighbourhood Group, and along with it the use of Perthville Hall, was in danger of closing due to a lack of interested community members.

A letterbox drop failed to attract enough interested people, so group president Tom Fallow contacted the Western Advocate for help.

And following a recent story in the Advocate, the group had more the 20 people attend its public meeting.

“If we didn’t have enough people we would have had to eventually disband,” Mr Fallow said. “The management of Perthville Hall would go back to council … the hall would effectively close and we would have had to liquidate all our assets.”

But that is all in the past now with a brand new committee elected and keen to serve the village of Perthville.

“I’m absolutely delighted,” Mr Fallow said.

New president is Victoria Tuson, vice president is Ken Hamer, treasurer Matthew Irvine, secretary Sharon-Lee Stonestreet, hall hire co-ordinator Amanda King and publicity officer Amanda Peterson. A further six people have also signed up to be committee members.

Ms Tuson only moved to Perthville three years ago and was keen to be a part of her community.

“The hall is a valuable resource for our school [Perthville public], which has no hall of its own, and our community and could not be left to flounder with an uncertain future and no committee to maintain it or administer its hire,” she said.

Ms Tuson said while the committee was yet to hold its first meeting, there were already a number of ideas it the works.

“I am very excited about the group's future. We have a great team of enthusiastic members, many with growing families, who are passionate about their neighbourhood and the community,” she said.

“Perthville and surrounds is a wonderful place to live and we want to band together to support the community and its residents to thrive.”
