THIS year’s Sofala Carp Blitz smashed previous attendance records with 307 people registering to go fishing during the two-day event.

The blitz, now in its eighth year, was held last weekend with many people choosing to camp along the river for the two days.
Anglers caught 239 carp and one redfin in the Turon and Crudine rivers. All up, the fish weighed just over 618 kilograms.
“It was a huge success with a record-breaking crowd,” organiser Colin Gordon said.
Funds raised during the event will be halved between the Kids With Cancer Foundation along with the cost of restocking the rivers with native Murray cod and golden perch.

- 7 years – Brooke Rankin (3.45kg) and Luke Moore (2.3kg)
- 8 years – Dixie Meekin (5.5kg) and Cooper Edwards (5.09kg)
- 9 years – Ethan Robinson (3.42kg)
- 10 years – Noah Evans (2.18kg) and Benson Burge (1.84kg)
- 11 years – Charlotte Evans (1.88kg)
- 12 years – Jacob Hawley (1.8kg)
- 13 years – Sarah Lane (5.03kg) and Callan Finnerty (3.82kg)
- 14 years – Leticia King (4.31kg) and Callum Evans (3.9kg)
- 15 years – Connor Evans (3.4kg)
- 16 years – Tiarna Robinson (1.19kg)
- Mystery weight prize of $100 cash won by Tom Davies with a 4.26kg carp (donated by Sherie Sinclair at the Old Sofala Gaol Cafe)
- Biggest carp caught on a fly – 7.07kg – Peter Lister
- Redfin weighing 0.5kg – Simon Fazzari
The best baits on the day were worms, corn, bread and Berkley soft plastics.
