While O’Malley’s golfing resume is an impressive one with three wins on the European Tour and two victories in the New Zealand PGA, the last two years he has missed the weekend rounds at the Australian PGA Championships.
Last year he fired rounds of 80 and 88.
With $1.5 million purse up for grabs O’Malley’s competition will be stiff with the likes of Adam Scott, defending champion Nathan Holman and Rio Olympian Danny Lee in the field.
Still, O’Malley has shown good form of late. A fortnight ago he spent time in the lead at the Australian Open and on Saturday he snared a top 10 finish in the Australian Senior PGA Championships. O’Malley has also recorded top 40 results at the New South Wales Open and the Victorian PGA Championships this year.
