These paintings and works on paper are a tribute to the people and places they have encountered in their travels, and a personal celebration of their shared love of drawing.
Their exhibition Lesley O’Shea and Joe Penn: Two Lives, One Road borrows its title and contents from the duo’s book Two Lives, One Road - A book of Drawings for the Love of Drawing which will be launched at Bathurst Regional Art Gallery on Tuesday, January 17 at 6pm.
Like many successful partnerships, Lesley and Joe work symbiotically. They thrive on each other’s company, interests and expertise.
However, their greatest strength is in their ability to work closely, often on similar subjects, while retaining their own style.
Joe is best known for his impressionistic landscapes in oils, while Lesley primarily paints and draws portraits and figures, although both work across mediums and genres.
Aside from their own practice, both Joe and Lesley tutor at the Royal Art Society and regularly host summer and winter camps at the Mitchell College of the Arts, Bathurst.
Lesley O’Shea and Joe Penn: Two Lives, One Road will be on exhibition until Sunday, January 29.
Remember, entry to the gallery is free.
