College students, family and friends are invited to the Sesquicentenary Anniversary Liturgy and official opening of the Sesquicentenary Historial Display and Garden Party, on Saturday January 21.
Head of College Dr Anne Wenham said planning for the events began early last year, with work on the historical display being finalised this week.
Two former students, last year’s head prefect Simon Slack-Smith and deputy head prefect Lachlan Barrett have been working full time on the display since the beginning of December.
The 12-month long display will be housed in the Marble Hall and both Simon and Lachlan said it has been an incredible experience going through the school’s history as they display it in readiness for the opening.
“It’s been really interesting going through boxes with things that are 150 years old literally hidden in the bottom,”Simon said.
Dr Wenham said staff had been going through store rooms and other historical artifacts digging out treasures which will go on display.
In addition to the exhibition in the Marble Hall there will also be two other main areas on display, a Vincentian room and a sporting memorabilia room which includes the cricket bat used by legend Don Bradman during a cricket match at Stannies.
The Slattery X-Ray Museum, featuring some of Father Joseph Patrick Slattery’s work, will also be open. Fr Slattery took the first x-ray for medical purposes in Australia.
Other major events include The Sesquicentenary Mass and Family Day on Sunday, February 19 and Sesquicentenary Dinner at the Performing Arts Centre on November 11.
