A MAN who assaulted his victim, placing her in a head lock before dragging her out the front of his house has been convicted of common assault and put on a bond.

John David Book, 28, of McIntosh Place in Kelso appeared before magistrate Ryan in Bathurst Local Court on Monday, January 9, charged with common assault.
Police facts which were tendered to the court told how at 9.36am, on August 1 last year the victim and Book were involved in a verbal argument.
Book swore at the victim, calling her “a dog.”
The victim told Book she was calling the police and did so on a mobile phone.
Book then threw a number of items around the lounge room, before the situation escalated and he placed the victim in a headlock using his right arm around the victim’s neck.
He then dragged the victim out the front door of the premises onto the front porch, down the stairs and out onto the front lawn area, with his arm still around her neck.
Book released his headlock and struggled with the victim over her mobile phone. Book grabbed hold of the victim’s hand’s physically removing the mobile phone from her hand’s using force.
The struggle outside the house was witnessed by a number of independent witnesses who also called police, after seeing the woman in the head lock.
Police attended and spoke to the victim who expressed fears for herself and that of her family. The court heard police held the same fears.
Book was taken to Bathurst Police Station where he admitted to having a physical struggle with the victim over the mobile phone and also being verbally abusive towards her.
He was convicted of common assault, and placed on a Section 9 bond for three years with supervision from probation and parole.
