A development application for a $500,000 medical centre, specialising in cardiology, is being considered by Bathurst Regional Council.
Cardiologist Dr Ray Parkin has lodged the plans with council, and if approved, it will see his premises move from Bentinck Street to 185 Durham Street, at the corner of Peel Street.
Dr Parkin said after 10 years at his current location it was time to move.
“Bathurst Cardiology is growing and the current premises are getting too small,” he said.
“I’m keen to expand cardiology services and get more cardiologists out there.
“The new premises will be three times the size of the current one.”
Dr Parkin said if the development application (DA) is approved it will allow more specialist medical services practitioners to come to Bathurst.
“I’d like to attract other specialists to Bathurst, and there will be consulting rooms [in the new premises],” he said.
“Bathurst is the fastest growing inland country town and there’s a lot of specialist services in Orange that we don’t have here.

“We don’t have a neurologist or an endocrinologists or a respiratory physician.”
The DA shows that inside the centre there will be seven consultation rooms along with specialist rooms for exercise tests, echocardiography and pulmonary function tests.
Entry to the centre will be via Peel Street, with all vehicles to ext onto Durham Street.
Dr Parkin said construction is due to commence in April with Bathurst Cardiology to move into its new premises by the end of the year.
“It will have all the latest equipment for staff and customers,” he said.
“There will be more parking available, bigger rooms, bigger facilities and it will be more modern.”
