As Turnbull took out the last race of the Bathurst Harness Racing Club’s meeting aboard $1.80 favourite Art Series, she continued her impressive streak on tracks across New South Wales.
It is the eighth consecutive season in which Turnbull has steered at least 100 winners, her tally for 2016-17 also including 58 second placings and 45 thirds as of Wednesday night.
Given the season has more than three months to run, Turnbull is on track to make it her most successful since 2013-14 when she steered a remarkable 203 winners.
Fittingly on Wednesday night, it was a horse from her father Steve Turnbull’s team that Amanda Turnbull steered to victory.
Coming from barrier six in the Bathurst RSL Two Year Old Pace (1,730 metres), she used the gate speed of the Bettors Delight x Sheezallattitude filly to cross and take the lead.
Once in front Art Series dictated terms, leading by more than a length for a majority of the journey.
With 400m to go, Art Series led by 1½ lengths and a 28.2 seconds third quarter of the last mile indicated she was travelling well. She went on to win by 3.2m over Trunkey Digger ($20.50).
The victory had Turnbull sitting nine clear of Chris Geary on top of the NSW drivers’ premiership.
