In early April after crashing in the Scheldeprijs one-day classic, Renshaw required surgery to help mend a broken Talus bone in his right ankle.
He did his first home training session after the operation and as his recovery has continued to go well, Renshaw was given the nod by team officials to ride in the Tour of California.
“It's a early return to racing after my ankle injury, but I’ve been working hard,” Renshaw tweeted.
The seven-stage race starts in Sacramento and features stages both suited to sprinters and climbers before finishing in Pasadena on May 20.
Renshaw brings experience to the outfit and in the absence of his team’s noted sprinter Mark Cavendish, is expected to work for Reinardt Janse van Rensburg on the flat stages.
